A bespoke garden canopy is a Douglas fir canopy that you can design entirely yourself using the Outdoor Life Products configurator. The canopies are made up of fixed sections in various widths.

Yes, you can use the configurator to design your own Douglas canopy. Within the modular system, you can choose the layout of the frame, the walls, any glass panels and the roof finish. Depending on the choices you make, concrete footings can also be added as a foundation.

No, unfortunately that isn’t possible. This design is based on a number of components in standard sizes. In most cases, this allows us to provide a suitable solution.

If you wish, you can adjust the canopy yourself to the dimensions you require. To do this, you will need to cut the components to size, making the canopy shallower or narrower.

No, the price shown on the website includes delivery. Therefore, no additional costs are normally charged. We deliver throughout the Netherlands and Belgium (excluding the Wadden Islands).

When designing your Douglas garden shed, you’ll follow a few straightforward steps:

• Decide on the dimensions of your garden shed
• Click on a wall position between the blocks on the floor plan to add, edit or remove a wall
• Then select a wall type and the desired finish for each position. Repeat this for all positions where you wish to edit a wall
• Specify how you wish to finish your roof (EPDM roof package, roof trims)
• Decide whether you wish to order concrete footings for the foundation. Please note: concrete footings cannot be used in combination with an industrial glass wall or sliding glass doors.
• Go to ‘Add to basket’. As a consumer, you can request a quote here using a code, which you can provide to a dealer to complete the order. A dealer can finalise the order via the dealer portal. The order is then processed automatically and confirmed to the dealer

Select ‘Dimensions’. First, choose the desired depth of the canopy. You can then select the width of the canopy. Click on the white area to view the various options. Once you have selected the relevant size, you will see the image on the right-hand side change.

If you’d rather not see the selected dimensions, click on the slider. The dimensions will disappear from view, but will of course still be retained in the background. You can change this setting at any time to bring the dimensions back into view.

Select ‘Walls’. Then click on a wall position between the blocks on the floor plan to add, edit or remove a wall. Next, select a wall type and the desired finish for each position. Repeat this for all positions where you want to edit a wall.

Select ‘Roof finish’. You can now choose an EPDM package including accessories and/or aluminium roof trims. If you wish to add these components, click the toggle button.

No, that isn’t necessary. There are many ways to create a solid foundation for your canopy. For example, you could opt for a tiled floor, hardwood beams, a concrete foundation or screw piles. Our standard concrete footings cannot be used in combination with an industrial glass wall or sliding glass doors.

The configurator automatically takes into account the options available for a particular size. If an option is not available, it will be greyed out. You will not be able to select this option.

Yes. By moving the mouse over the image and right-clicking, you can rotate the image fully, including views from above and below. On a mobile device, this can be done using your finger; on a tablet, you can use a trackpad in the usual way.

The Douglas canopy you have put together consists of a large number of components, which are divided into ready-made packages. Each package has its own price. The components are added together based on the choices you have made and the dimensions you have specified.

With a single-sided wall finish, you can see in the image the wooden framework to which the planks are attached. If you rotate the image, you will see that the exterior of the wall consists of a single piece. With a single-sided finish, the wooden framework remains visible.

With a double-sided wall finish, the wooden framework to which the planks are attached is no longer visible in the image. If you rotate the image, you will see that the wall consists of a single unit on both the inside and outside. With a double-sided finish, the wooden framework disappears from view. On both sides, the planks are attached to the wooden framework.

With a double-sided finish, you can choose to give the inside and outside a different finish.

The roofing kit for the canopy is a complete set of materials for waterproofing the roof of your canopy using EPDM rubber. This kit consists of a sufficiently large piece of black EPDM rubber membrane, the necessary adhesive, sealant and a vertical roof outlet (drain).

The roof outlet ensures that rainwater can be drained away through the roof, the roof remains watertight, and no damage occurs around the outlet point. You can decide for yourself where to install the roof outlet; using drainage materials you purchase yourself, you can determine how you wish to drain the rainwater. Options include a rain barrel or draining directly into the ground.

Please note: the rainwater drainpipe (downpipe) and matching fixing materials are therefore not included.

A roof trim is an aluminium finishing profile that is installed along the edges of the roof. It provides a neat finish, offers structural strength and protects the roof covering. This set consists of a sufficient number of black aluminium roof trims (RAL9005) measuring 45x45x2500mm, complete with external corners, connectors, roof trim screws, sealant and installation instructions.

A roof trim serves several purposes:

• Prevents water from running over the roof edge. The roof trim directs the water towards the rainwater drain, preventing leaks or dirt build-up along the façade.
• Protects the roofing material. The edges of materials such as EPDM, bitumen or PVC are protected against being blown loose and weathering.
• A roof trim gives the roof a sleek finish and ensures the roof edge looks attractive and neatly finished.

A concrete footing is a precast concrete foundation element that is often used to secure posts, uprights or structures firmly and stably to the ground. It acts as a kind of plinth or foundation block and ensures that the load from the structure is distributed evenly across the ground.

Yes, our canopies are specially designed to be installed as freestanding structures. At present, there are no special attached versions available.

No, we don’t have our own installation teams. Fortunately, in most cases, it’s relatively easy to do this yourself by following the step-by-step instructions.

Discuss your installation requirements with your dealer. In many cases, they have their own installers or know a good tradesperson who can help you.

First of all, look at the overall space and base the dimensions of your canopy on that. Bear the following in mind:

• Measure carefully and always measure twice to avoid mistakes
• Take obstacles into account, including those overhead such as tree branches
• Make sure you leave enough space around your garden canopy

The delivery time is 15 to 20 working days from the date OLG receives the order. In exceptional cases, this delivery time may be extended due to the availability of materials. Once the order has been placed, the dealer will receive a confirmation. In the event of any changes, you will be informed of the current status of your order.

The canopy and any additional parts you’ve ordered will be delivered to your home. The parcel will be left on the pavement by your driveway or front door. You can then move the parts to your chosen location yourself.

When you place your order, we will let you know the estimated delivery week. Before delivery, you will receive a notification from the carrier stating the delivery date and time slot.

If you do not treat Douglas fir, it will weather. Douglas fir weathers more quickly when exposed to the elements. Under the influence of wind, sun and rain, its warm appearance is lost extremely quickly. Blue stain (which is not harmful, but does contribute to the weathering of the wood), algae and wood rot can also contribute to the weathering of Douglas fir.

Preventing weathering is not necessary. In fact, many people actually find it very attractive. Due to the natural strength of Douglas fir, the weathering of the wood under normal conditions does not detract from its quality.

The best way to maintain Douglas wood is to clean it regularly and treat it with an opaque or transparent outdoor wood stain or wood protection oil. Such a product also offers protection against moisture, rot, blue stain and algae

It is best to treat new Douglas fir immediately after installation and repeat this every one to two years, depending on exposure to sun and rain. This will help you maintain both its appearance and durability.

New Douglas fir naturally contains a high level of resin and moisture. You should therefore allow the wood to acclimatise for a few weeks before treating it, so that the resin channels stabilise and the treatment adheres more effectively. Lightly sand the surfaces and remove any dust or dirt before you start applying the protective coating.

Following the initial treatment, we recommend annual or biennial maintenance. Clean the wood with a soft brush and water, allow it to dry, and then apply a fresh coat of stain or oil. Pay particular attention to horizontal surfaces such as joists and roof sections, as these collect more rainwater and take longer to dry. Proper maintenance significantly extends the lifespan of your Douglas fir structure and preserves its natural appearance.

Douglas wood is a strong timber with a long lifespan. It falls under durability class 3 and has a high percentage of heartwood. Douglas wood becomes increasingly hard as it dries. Due to its coarse grain, end grain and drying cracks may also form, just as with other types of timber. This does not affect the strength or functionality of the product.

The lifespan of your canopy depends partly on how it is installed on the ground, the degree of shelter it receives, and the maintenance it receives. On average, your canopy will last at least 10 to 15 years. With proper maintenance, a Douglas fir canopy can last 20 years or more.
